Do you pray for your enemies?

Christians are taught to pray for their enemies but I guess that is so hard to do.

I do not actually start my prayers with trying to bless the names of those who do not wish me good in life – who do not even want to see me alive. I only pray for everyone to receive the reward they deserve.

My prayers are always on a neutral ground. I do not oppress anybody. So, I have no reason, whatsoever, to remember to pray good prayers for some persons whose interest is to see me down to my knees or down to nothing. Never!

No I don’t, I’m not that charitable but thankfully I don’t seem to have any real enemies.

However, there have been times when people have upset me but in time I have been able to forgive them. I can’t say I ever wished good things to happen to them, I just got over whatever they had done to annoy me.

I don’t deliberately keep enemies, so I don’t have any to pray for

Jesus Christ said in Mark 5:44, “But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;”.

So does this mean anyone that hates you or sets foolproof traps for you, or shows real animosity towards you, you should not pray against them? It may depend. Is it possible Jesus was talking generally about love, forgiveness, attitude towards haters and to shun bitterness? Probably!

I wish I were that nice but I’m sorry, I don’t. Instead, I ask God to bless me with the grace to be a better person and steer clear of anyone I consider an enemy. I don’t wish them ill but I don’t seek them out, that way there’s less chance of them harming me.
